Softball Game Preview: Southeastern Panthers vs. Peebles Indians

The Southeastern Panthers will square off against the Peebles Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Peebles took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Southeastern, who comes in off a win.

If Southeastern beats Peebles with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Panthers walked away with a 6-2 win over Paint Valley on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.

Kylie Williams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, Mallorie Elam and Elle Stewart did most of the damage at the plate: Elam went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Stewart went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Stewart a new career-high. Lydia Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Southeastern hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paint Valley struck out 17 times.

Meanwhile, Peebles was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to Lynchburg-Clay.

Peebles' loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Southeastern, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.

Southeastern beat Peebles 9-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
