The Winamac Warriors will square off against the Caston Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Monday, Winamac needed a bit of extra time to put away Twin Lakes. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Indians. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Lauren Bruce was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Makayla Werner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Caston came out on top against Marion on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Comets had just enough and edged out the Giants 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Comets have posted since May 10, 2024.
Hadlie Coffing spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 15 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Myli Rude, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Natalie Warner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Winamac's victory bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Caston, their win bumped their record up to 4-12.
Caston's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Winamac has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Caston, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Winamac's sizable advantage in that area, the Comets will need to find a way to close that gap.
