Softball Recap: Elkhart Lions vs. New Prairie Cougars

Elkhart extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-5 in the process. They fell 7-4 to the New Prairie Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 on Tuesday.

Bailey Harris-Rogers was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Ava Walker also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for New Prairie, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On New Prairie's side, Ava Geyer made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Geyer has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

Geyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kiera Strakowksi, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Addi Luther was another, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elkhart will host Pioneer at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for New Prairie, they will welcome Chesterton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Trojans will aim to continue their seven-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
