Softball Game Preview: Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs

The Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack will face off against the Monterey Trail Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cosumnes Oaks hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Cosumnes Oaks came up short against Sheldon on Friday, falling 16-2.

Cosumnes Oaks saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amyah Avila, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Kaiya Cantiller also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Monterey Trail posted their closest victory since April 4, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lincoln, sneaking past 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Maya Ewing was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Monterey Trail hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Monterey Trail's win bumped their record up to 7-8. As for Cosumnes Oaks, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
