Softball Recap: Walnut Grove Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

It was a proper cat-fight when Walnut Grove challenged Greenville on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Lions. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Hannah Adkins looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Walnut Grove let Ella Berlage and Kailee James run wild. Berlage went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while James went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Micayla Wood was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Walnut Grove hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenville struck out 13 times.

Walnut Grove pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Greenville, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.

Coming up, Walnut Grove will welcome Lovejoy at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The Leopards' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Greenville, they will venture away from home to face off against Sherman at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
