Football Game Preview: Asheboro Blue Comets vs. Eastern Guilford Wildcats + How To Watch

Asheboro is 0-5 against Eastern Guilford since November of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Blue Comets will welcome the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, Asheboro ended up a good deal behind Southeast Guilford and lost 21-3. The matchup marked the Blue Comets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, after only ten points in their last game, Eastern Guilford made sure to put some points up on the board against Southern Guilford on Friday. The Wildcats enjoyed a cozy 31-13 victory over the Storm. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Storm are ranked 278th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Asheboro better focus on containing Tyler Whaley-Melvin and Javion Majette as the pair were huge in Eastern Guilford's win. Whaley-Melvin rushed for 150 yards and one score, while Majette rushed for 54 yards and three TDs. Whaley-Melvin has become a key player for Eastern Guilford: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Asheboro's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Eastern Guilford, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Asheboro took a serious blow against Eastern Guilford in their previous meeting back in March of 2021, falling 55-13. Thankfully for the Blue Comets, Hezekia Newby (who rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 70 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
