The Archbishop McNicholas Rockets will head out on the road to challenge the Sycamore Aviators at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Archbishop McNicholas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Archbishop McNicholas had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Chaminade Julienne Catholic on Monday. The Rockets were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Rockets have posted against the Eagles since April 23, 2021.
Natalie Jones made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Jones was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Grace Reuss was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Megan Richardson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Archbishop McNicholas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Sycamore narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Colerain 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Aviators have posted against the Cardinals since April 27, 2018.
Like Archbishop McNicholas, Sycamore also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Andolina. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Andolina has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Andolina wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn Gambaccini, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
Archbishop McNicholas has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Sycamore, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Sycamore's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Archbishop McNicholas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Sycamore, though, as they've only averaged .202. Will they be able to contain Archbishop McNicholas' hitters?
Archbishop McNicholas couldn't quite get it done against Sycamore in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 as they fell 3-0. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
