Packers rattle off 33 straight points to register surprisingly lopsided victory over previous No. 2 Lowndes.
It wasn't a push or a nudge. Colquitt County stampeded its way to the top of the Georgia MaxPreps Top 25 high school football computer rankings with a 40-10 win over previous No. 2 Lowndes on Friday night.
After Lowndes took a 7-0 lead, the Packers scored 33 unanswered points keyed by two touchdown passes from
Xavier Williams to
Dijmon Wheeler and capped with a 70-yard TD run by
Charlie Pace. Colquitt County's defense was also superb with three interceptions, including two by
Antonio Spradley. One of the state's top rushers
Jacurri Brown was held to 84 yards and a late touchdown.
Previous top-ranked Grayson certainly didn't do anything to hurt its reputation with a 58-17 win over Brookwood. Recent transfer quarterback and USC commit
Jake Garcia completed 10 of 14 pass for 228 yards and three touchdowns. The Rams piled up 550 total yards. Despite that, Grayson is now No. 2.
Three teams entered the rankings this week, No. 20 Cherokee, No. 22 Marist and No. 25 Brookwood. Cherokee made the biggest jump from No. 30 following a 28-14 win over Alpharetta.
