Baseball Recap: Williston Has No Trouble Against Crescent City

Williston had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Crescent City on Friday. The Williston Red Devils were the clear victor by a 17-1 margin over the Crescent City Raiders. Considering the Red Devils have won six matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Anthony Gardea made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Blake Martin was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Cannon Sims, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Williston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crescent City only posted a batting average of .222.

Williston has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Crescent City's loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williston will square off against Seven Rivers Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Williston's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Seven Rivers Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Crescent City, they will take on Halifax Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Crescent City has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
