Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Taft). They breezed by the Holmes Huskies to the tune of 85-51 on Saturday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Raiders as it spelled an end to their 12-game losing streak.
Holmes lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Noah Smith, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in November of 2024. Joseph Ramon was another key player, putting up nine points and five steals.
Taft's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-20. As for Holmes, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 19 of their last 20 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-24 record this season.
Taft and Holmes could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Taft will challenge Stevens at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday down 450 places (776 vs. 326). Taft is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. Similarly, Holmes (ranked 960th) will meet Warren (ranked 397th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
