Basketball Recap: Russell Takes a Loss

Russell and Boyd County squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Russell had to settle for second. They fell 57-45 to the Boyd County Lions. The Red Devils haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Russell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caleb Rimmer shot 89% from the field to rack up 21 points and seven rebounds. The last time Rimmer's field goal percentage was this high was back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Pridemore, who posted nine points.

Russell's loss dropped their record down to 15-14. As for Boyd County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 21 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-11 record this season.

Russell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Boyd County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-47 defeat against Blazer on the 11th.
