Baseball Recap: Atchison Beats Veritas Christian for Their Sixth Straight Win

Atchison put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their undefeated season alive. They put the hurt on the Veritas Christian Eagles with a sharp 16-9 victory. The result was nothing new for the Phoenix, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Yogi Purdy was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Leighton Boldridge, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Atchison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Atchison's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Veritas Christian, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 6-2 record.

Coming up, Atchison will welcome Wyandotte at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Phoenix's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Veritas Christian, they are taking a road trip to face off against Eudora at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
