Basketball Recap: Hayfork Piles Up the Points Against Surprise Valley

Hayfork came tearing into Monday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 46 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 85-21 win over the Surprise Valley Hornets. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-11.

Levi Cavalli was his usual excellent self, putting up 26 points and seven steals. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Jessee, who posted 13 points and five steals.

Hayfork smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 15 consecutive contests.

Surprise Valley's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Eichstadt, who scored 11 points and six boards. That was a full 52.4% of Surprise Valley's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Casey Grove was another key player, earning four points.

Hayfork's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.7 points over those games. As for Surprise Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

Hayfork wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 83-23 win against Butte Valley on the 10th. As for Surprise Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-34 defeat against Burney on the 5th.
