Crete-Monee won the last time they faced Thornton and things went their way on Friday too. The Crete-Monee Warriors walked away with a 48-39 victory over the Thornton Wildcats. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Wildcats are ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Thornton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jeremy Blanco-Rios went 6 of 12 to rack up 17 points and five rebounds. Blanco-Rios is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Deandre Higgs was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Crete-Monee's record is now 18-10. As for Thornton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-16.

Coming up, Crete-Monee will venture away from home to face off against Rich Township at 6:30 p.m. on February 14th. As for Thornton, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lincoln at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lincoln will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Thornton surely won't give up without a fight.
