Softball Game Preview: Pinecrest Patriots vs. Cary Imps

The Pinecrest Patriots are taking a road trip to square off against the Cary Imps at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pinecrest is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Pinecrest will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Northwood on Monday. The Patriots put the hurt on the Chargers with a sharp 19-4 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Patriots as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Pinecrest got a massive performance out of Emily Hatcher, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Hatcher a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaiya Todd, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Pinecrest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Cary was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They came up short against Middle Creek, falling 17-2.

Cary saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Shea, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. Alena Ferrara also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Pinecrest's victory bumped their record up to 5-15. As for Cary, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
