Alexandria City is 1-9 against West Springfield since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Titans will be playing at home against the Spartans at 6:30 p.m. Alexandria City has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Alexandria City couldn't beat South County on Wednesday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fourth inning. The Titans came up short against the Stallions, falling 19-9. The Titans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Paula Nunez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Zaria Edwards, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.
Meanwhile, West Springfield never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Robinson with a sharp 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Robinson's batters probably weren't too happy with Andrea Yagui, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up two walks). Yagui has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elaina Primozic, who fired off two home runs, three RBI, and one stolen base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Middendorf, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
West Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Alexandria City, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alexandria City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like West Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .399. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alexandria City might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from West Springfield in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
