Football Game Preview: Christ the King Royals vs. Holy Cross Knights

Two dominant backs in Isaiah Smith and Antoine Williams are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Christ the King Royals will head out on the road to face off against the Holy Cross Knights at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Christ the King is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They took down Kennedy Catholic 32-13.

Meanwhile, while Holy Cross put up plenty of points on Saturday, the same can't be said for St. Dominic. The Knights simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bayhawks 42-0. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won three matchups by 30 points or more so far this season.

Christ the King better keep an eye on Madden Martinez. He was instrumental in Holy Cross' win, throwing for 118 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in one TD on the ground. Martinez's passing game has become a key predictor of the Knights' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.

The victory (which was Holy Cross' third in a row) raised their record to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.3 points on average over those games. As for Christ the King, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Christ the King came up short against Holy Cross in their previous meeting back in September, falling 16-6. Can the Royals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
