Softball Recap: Chaparral Takes a Loss

Chaparral had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-15 to make it six. They lost 19-2 to the Deming Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 last Tuesday.

As for Deming, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Deming's part, Kayzleen Apodaca was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Apodaca a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Deming let Kelsie Westbrook and Cristal Enriquez run wild. Westbrook went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Enriquez went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Enriquez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alejandra Milo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

While Chaparral had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
