Softball Recap: Spring Beats Macarthur for Their Third Straight Victory

Spring had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on the MacArthur Generals with a sharp 11-1 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lions also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Mikayla Zepeda spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hailey Jones-Calais, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Xaida Bettis was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Spring hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Spring's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for MacArthur, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-9-1.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Spring Lions challenge Dekaney Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on March 18th. Dekaney has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.33 runs per game on average), something Spring will no doubt try to take advantage of. MacArthur will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Westfield at 5:00 p.m. on March 18th. MacArthur is facing Westfield at the right time seeing as Westfield is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
