Basketball Recap: Logan Hayes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Platte over Mitchell

North Platte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 61-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mitchell Tigers. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

North Platte's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Hayes, who went 6 for 12 en route to 17 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hayes a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Eli Broman, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 12 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, North Platte was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

North Platte's defeat dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Mitchell, the win snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-10 record.

North Platte didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-17 victory against Liberty Tree Academy on the 1st. Mitchell has also already played their next matchup, a 54-41 loss against Chadron on the 1st.
