Basketball Game Preview: Verdugo Hills Dons vs. Valencia Vikings

Two dominant guards in Amiyya Castanos and Cara McKell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Verdugo Hills Dons and the Valencia Vikings will round out the year against one another at at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Verdugo Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.7 points per game this season.

Verdugo Hills saw some tournament action on Saturday. They managed a 52-46 win over Temple City. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dons.

Verdugo Hills can attribute much of their success to Castanos, who posted 21 points and six steals, and Rayleen Castanos, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. That's the most boards Rayleen has posted since back in January. Kayla Pimentel was another key player, putting up six points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valencia). They came out on top against Burroughs by a score of 90-83 on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on three straight.

Verdugo Hills pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Valencia, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
