Basketball Game Preview: Shepaug Valley Spartans vs. Thomaston Bears

Shepaug Valley is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Thomaston is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Shepaug Valley Spartans will host the Thomaston Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shepaug Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 19 games -- so hopefully Thomaston likes a good challenge.

Shepaug Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Reed Woerner out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine boards. The matchup was Woerner's 18th in a row with at least 20 points. James Kersten was another key player, dropping a double-double with 21 points and ten rebounds.

Shepaug Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Thomaston was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 65-64 to Lakeview.

Shepaug Valley's win bumped their record up to 19-0. As for Thomaston, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-4.

Shepaug Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Thomaston in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 73-69 victory. Will Shepaug Valley repeat their success, or does Thomaston have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
