The Douglas County Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Heritage Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The last four games Douglas County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Douglas County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Mountain Vista, who was ranked 21st at the time (Douglas County was ranked 19th). The Huskies fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 4-2 on Friday. The Huskies' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Douglas County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bricen Moore, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Heritage got the win against Ponderosa on Friday by a conclusive 9-3. Considering the Eagles have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Carson Davies tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Camden Nichols was incredible, earning two RBI, three runs, and two stolen bases. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Elliott Milstead also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Heritage's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10-1. As for Douglas County, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
Heritage's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Douglas County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Heritage, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Douglas County's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Douglas County beat Heritage 9-6 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
