Softball Game Preview: Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology Colonials vs. Hayfield Hawks

Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology is 0-6 against Hayfield since April of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. The Colonials are taking a road trip to take on the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Mount Vernon on Monday. The Colonials blew past the Majors 15-5. The victory continues a trend for the Colonials in their matchups with the Majors: they've now won six in a row.

Josie Whitaker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology let Dia Bhatia and Emma Tao run wild. Bhatia earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Tao went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Merrilee McWeeney, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Vernon struck out seven times.
