Softball Recap: Goreville Has No Trouble Against Pope County

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Goreville had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Pope County Pirates with a sharp 11-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Blackcats in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won six in a row.

Breanna (Brea) Suits was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last nine contests. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Hannah Trainor was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Allison Chamness, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Goreville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 10-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Goreville's record is now 14-17. As for Pope County, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-17.

Goreville has already played their next game (against Elverado), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pope County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
