Baseball Recap: Vanguard Continues Home Dominance on Monday

There's no place like home for Vanguard, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Crystal River Pirates 16-1 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Brendan McLaughlin made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bobby Blanco, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jacob ?Jake? Wells, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Vanguard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Vanguard's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Crystal River, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Vanguard will venture away from home to square off against P.K. Yonge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Crystal River, they will welcome Lecanto at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lecanto has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.4 runs per game on average), something Crystal River will no doubt try to take advantage of.
