Softball Recap: Southmont Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Southmont and South Putnam squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Southmont had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-0. The Mounties have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Ella Barry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

Southmont's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for South Putnam, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Southmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Putnam, they will challenge Greencastle at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Tiger Cubs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
