Baseball Recap: Academy Park Knights vs. Chichester Eagles
Academy Park had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it four. They lost 21-2 to the Chichester Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.
As for Chichester, their victory bumped their record up to 13-5. Considering they have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
For Chichester's part, Matt Johanson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Johanson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Cole Sanford was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Chichester is undefeated when Sanford posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Alex Kester was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Academy Park will head out to face off against Penn Wood at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Chichester will be paying especially close attention to the Knights' match: after the Knights face off against the Patriots, they'll take on Chichester again at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
