Softball Game Preview: Delavan-Darien Comets vs. Jefferson Eagles

For the second straight game, Delavan-Darien will face off against Jefferson. The Comets will welcome the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Delavan-Darien: they have been struggling with 14 straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Jefferson has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Delavan-Darien fell victim to Jefferson and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 12-0 to the Eagles.

For Jefferson's part, Bre Mengel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Mengel was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Chloe Smith was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Merranda Frank, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Jefferson's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Delavan-Darien, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
