Softball Recap: Mescalero Apache Takes a Loss

Mescalero Apache extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-11. They lost 16-1 to the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers. If the Chiefs were looking for revenge after losing 17-0 to the SonBlazers when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, they now have a winning record of 9-8. The result was nothing new for the SonBlazers, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Mesilla Valley Christian School's part, Maren Fiske made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. Fiske has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Mesilla Valley Christian School let Joanna Hurd and Abgail Flores run wild. Hurd went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple, while Flores went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four hits gave Flores a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Stailey Faust, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mescalero Apache is set to square off against their familiar foe Capitan at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mesilla Valley Christian School will challenge rival Lordsburg at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
