Basketball Recap: Central Falls Short Against Ranked Classical

On Saturday, Central faced Classical in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Central Knights were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 73-72 to the Classical Purple. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 77-72 on Friday.

It was another big night for Eliezer Delbrey, who posted 30 points for Classical. That makes it three consecutive games in which Delbrey has scored at least a third of Classical's points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Duke, who put up 17 points.

Central is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-7. As for Classical, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Central will head out on the road to face off against Johnston at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 games -- so hopefully Johnston likes a good challenge. As for Classical, they will square off against Cumberland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cumberland has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Classical will come in with four straight wins.
