Baseball Recap: Mendota Takes a Loss

Mendota had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 8-14-1 to make it five. They fell 7-2 to the Sterling Golden Warriors. The Trojans were not able to make up for their loss to the Golden Warriors from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Sterling, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-17 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Sterling's part, Bryce Hartman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. Hartman also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Golden Warriors are 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 8-16 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Nettleton, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Davis, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Mendota will face off against Erie-Prophetstown at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Sterling, they will take on Geneseo at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
