Softball Recap: Morristown-Hamblen East's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Morristown-Hamblen East made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Jefferson County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Hurricanes were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Patriots on Tuesday. Nine seems to be a good number for the Hurricanes as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Ella Wampler was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaycee Hamilton, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Hudson Cloninger, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

The victory (which was Morristown-Hamblen East's third in a row) raised their record to 4-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Jefferson County, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morristown-Hamblen East will host Sevier County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Smoky Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.08 runs per game on average), something the Hurricanes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Jefferson County, they will welcome Morristown-Hamblen West at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
