Preview: Laney Buccaneers vs. Ashley Screaming Eagle
Laney is 10-0 against the Screaming Eagle since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Laney Buccaneers will look to defend their home court against the Ashley Screaming Eagle at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Laney focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Laney scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They claimed a resounding 77-45 win over West Brunswick on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Laney.
Laney's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hezron Driver, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Driver continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Shark Baynard, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Ashley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 77-37 loss at the hands of New Hanover. Ashley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-21.
Laney pushed their record up to 16-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Ashley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Laney didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the Screaming Eagle in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 49-44 victory. Does Laney have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Screaming Eagle turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
