Softball Recap: Grayson County Gets the Win

Grayson County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Metcalfe County on Thursday. The Cougars never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The Cougars not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 13-2).

Ellie Bratcher was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Haycraft, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. Jacie Alexander was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Grayson County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Metcalfe County only managed four.

Grayson County's record now sits at 9-14. As for Metcalfe County, they dropped their record down to 7-18 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Grayson County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Metcalfe County, they will take on Hart County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
