Softball Game Preview: Hampshire Regional Raiders vs. Westfield Bombers

The Hampshire Regional Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Westfield Bombers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hampshire Regional will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

Hampshire Regional barely beat Agawam the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Raiders put the hurt on the Brownies with a sharp 11-1 win on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Ryanne Dubay1 spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caelyn Thayor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Charles, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Hampshire Regional always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Agawam only posted an OBP of .296.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westfield). They were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over Minnechaug Regional on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Bombers in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won nine in a row.

Hampshire Regional's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average this season. As for Westfield, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

Hampshire Regional skirted past Westfield 6-5 in their previous matchup on Friday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
