Football Recap: Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds vs. Wall Eagles
Wolsey-Wessington had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wall Eagles on Friday, sneaking past 30-28. The victory was familiar territory for the Warbirds who have now won four matches in a row.
Caleb Richmond continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 219 yards and a touchdown. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 107 rushing yards. Moshe Richmond was another key player, gaining 135 total yards and a touchdown.
Wolsey-Wessington wouldn't let Wall keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Wolsey-Wessington can thank Colin Hughes and Richmond for forcing both of them.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tanner Volmer, who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Volmer also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending three passes. Another player making a difference was Jace Mohr, who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
Wolsey-Wessington's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Wall, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-1.
Wolsey-Wessington will square off against Howard at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Howard knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Wolsey-Wessington likes a good challenge. Wall does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
