Basketball Recap: Washington Takes a Loss

Washington lost against Moreau Catholic back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Washington Huskies were outmatched by the Moreau Catholic Mariners and fell 95-53. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 435th, while the Mariners are ranked 58th).

Kellen Hampton was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 39 points for Moreau Catholic. The match was Hampton's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Thomas, who made all 6 shots he took to post 14 points and three steals.

Washington has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-9 record this season. As for Moreau Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Washington will challenge American at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Dylan JaWei Lee and Gianni Clark. As for Moreau Catholic, they will square off against Kennedy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Moreau Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 237 points over their last three matchups.
