Washington: Curtis Lacrosse Player Named to All-America Team

Ephrata hoops star re-commits to Cougars; Baseball playoffs underway.

Landon Carr became the first player from the state named to the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Team.

"I was really excited when I heard about it," the senior told the Tacoma News Tribune. "It was the one thing I was hoping to earn this summer."

Carr is one of only four players west of the Mississippi to earn the honor. He will play in the all-star game on June 27 in Towson, Md. ESPNU will televise the game.

“That game is going to be a lot of fun,” he told the TNT. “I know some of the other guys on the team.”

Carr, who plays for Curtis of University Place, will play collegiately at lacrosse-power Maryland. He leads the state with 59 points (35 goals, 24 assists).

Basketball: Ephrata star re-commits to Cougars

Patrick Simon committed to Washington State as a freshman.

As a senior, the Ephrata star did it again.

Simon sat down with new coach Ken Bone and re-committed to play in Pullman. Simon originally committed to Tony Bennett, who left recently to coach Virginia.

Simon led Ephrata to the Class 2A state championship in 2008 as a sophomore, but had to sit out last season because of a stress fracture in his right foot.

Baseball: Tahoma wins SPSL showdown

With the baseball playoffs getting underway, No. 5 Tahoma won an early postseason showdown against No. 2 Puyallup in the championship game of the South Puget Sound League tournament.

Kyle Conwell hit home runs in consecutive at-bats as Tahoma won 11-2. Conwell, who has five homers, had four RBI.

"I've definitely got my swing back," he told the Seattle Times. Conwell struggled early in the season recovering from shoulder surgery.

Tahoma takes the top seed into this weekend's district tournament.

Also: Daunte Santos hit a two-out single in the ninth inning to lift No. 8 Mount Rainier past No. 9 Auburn Mountainview 6-5 in the championship game of the SPSL 3A/Seamount subdistrict tournament. ... Drew Schultz was 2-for-2 with a homer and four RBI as Olympia blasted South Kitsap 12-0 in the Narrows League title game.
