Softball Game Preview: Texas City Stingarees vs. La Porte Bulldogs

Texas City hasn't had much luck against La Porte recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Texas City Stingarees will host the La Porte Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. The last four games Texas City has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Texas City gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Ball, sneaking past 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Stingarees in their matchups with the Tornadoes: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, La Porte entered their match against Friendswood on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. La Porte took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Friendswood. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Aaliyah Maldonado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophie Sandel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Sandel is also crushing it when it comes to hits: she's got at least three every time she's taken the field this season.

Texas City's victory bumped their record up to 9-3-1. As for La Porte, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2-1.
