Softball Game Preview: Canal Winchester Indians vs. Newark Wildcats

Canal Winchester is 0-8 against Newark since April of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Indians will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 5:15 p.m. One thing working in Canal Winchester's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.

Canal Winchester's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Reynoldsburg as they made off with a 16-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won three in a row.

Canal Winchester got a massive performance out of Kendal Mccrea, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those stolen bases were Mccrea's first of the season. Gabby Wuelleh was another key player, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3.

Canal Winchester lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Newark came up short against Groveport-Madison on Tuesday, falling 17-5.

Lexi Shanaberg made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Gostrue, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Newark's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Canal Winchester, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
