Pearland's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They really took it to Pasadena Memorial for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-0 win. Given the Oilers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Mavericks are ranked 593rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pearland can attribute much of their success to Ja'Maurey Champion, who rushed for 109 yards and three TDs on only 13 carries, and Royce Swan, who rushed for 81 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pearland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 176 rushing yards in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Pearland didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Joseph Credit and C.J. Birkelbach. Credit is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made six or more in each of the last ten games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Pasadena Memorial's side was Taylen Alviza, who picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Shadow Creek against Pasadena Memorial last Friday as the squad secured a 52-14 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-7.
Shadow Creek's win came from a few key players Pearland will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tavis Coleman, who threw for 279 yards and six TDs while picking up 12.7 yards per attempt. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 23 passing touchdowns on the season. Jacier Pace helped Coleman out on the ground, rushing for 98 yards and one score on only seven carries, while also picking up 70 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Pearland's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Shadow Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
