Basketball Recap: Riverdale Comes Up Short

Riverdale was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Ida Baker Bulldogs 59-16. The Raiders were probably out for revenge after losing 61-31 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ida Baker had a senior duo take command as Maia Berdebes dropped a double-double on 20 points and 23 rebounds and Jocelyn Hernandez-Castro dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Berdebes has scored at least a third of Ida Baker's points. Kaiden Nealeigh also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Riverdale's defeat dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Ida Baker, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-13.

Riverdale wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 42-27 loss against Cypress Lake on the 14th. As for Ida Baker, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 58-48 victory against East Lee County on the 14th.
