Basketball Recap: North Lawndale Takes a Loss

North Lawndale suffered their biggest loss since December 4, 2024 on Wednesday. They were beaten by the Butler Lynx 63-29. While losing is never fun, the Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while the Lynx are ranked 116th).

Butler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Xyanna Walton led the charge by dropping a double-double with 18 points and 19 boards. Walton has become a key player for Butler: the team is 16-5 when she posts at least ten rebounds, but 4-5 otherwise. Cyra Conwell was another key player, putting up 19 points and four steals.

North Lawndale's defeat dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Butler, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-10.

North Lawndale does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Butler, they will face off against Chicago Marshall at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
