Softball Recap: Garland Continues Home Dominance on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wylie, Garland was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lakeview Centennial Patriots an 18-0 shutout. Considering the Owls have won eight matchups by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Natalie Arent made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Arent was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Cecilia Perry was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mady Key, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Garland's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Lakeview Centennial, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.

Garland will venture away from home to take on Wylie East at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Owls 3.7, the Raiders 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Lakeview Centennial, they will take on Wylie at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
