Basketball Game Preview: Thornton Fractional North Meteors vs. Providence Catholic Celtics

The Thornton Fractional North Meteors will take on the Providence Catholic Celtics at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Thornton Fractional North is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Lemont, posting a 74-42 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Meteors sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Meanwhile, Providence Catholic waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 64-32 win over the Bengals. Given the Celtics' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Bengals are ranked 319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Thornton Fractional North pushed their record up to 23-8 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points over those games. As for Providence Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 22-11.

Thornton Fractional North came up short against Providence Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 60-47. Can Thornton Fractional North avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
