Athens was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Pontiac on Friday. The Red Hawks simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Phoenix 44-16. The Red Hawks pushed the score to 44-8 by the end of the third, a deficit the Phoenix cut but never quite recovered from.

Cainan Hanbury had a dynamite game, picking up 44 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while also punching in one touchdown on the ground.

Another reason for the win was Athens' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. William Goetz refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.

The victory got Athens back to even at 1-1. As for Pontiac, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Athens has already played their next game, a 44-17 loss against Oak Park on the 12th. As for Pontiac, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 43-0 defeat against Berkley on the 12th.
