Softball Recap: Philipsburg-Osceola's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Philipsburg-Osceola came out on top against Central on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Mountaineers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Dragons a 10-0 shutout. The Mountaineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.

Emily Gustkey was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Chverchko, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

Philipsburg-Osceola hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central struck out six times.

The victory was the third in a row for Philipsburg-Osceola, bringing their record up to 7-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Central, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-7.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Philipsburg-Osceola will face off against rival Central Cambria at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Central is set to square off against their familiar foe Greater Johnstown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
