Softball Recap: Shorewood Comes Up Short

Shorewood fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Meadowdale on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 6-5. The Stormrays were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mavericks earlier this season, when they won 8-3.

Ellie Van Horn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 19 Ks.

At the plate, Rose Gallagher was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Lillian Perreault, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Shorewood and nudges their season record down to 12-8. As for Meadowdale, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shorewood will head out to challenge Lynnwood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Stormrays are facing the Royals at the right time seeing as the Royals are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Meadowdale, they will head out on the road to take on Archbishop Murphy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mavericks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season.
