Baseball Recap: Grace Christian's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Five

With a playoff win on the line, Grace Christian rose to the challenge on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Asheville Christian Academy Lions with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Caleb Ellis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jimmy Alfonsin, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. Reggie Marshall was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Grace Christian lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The win (which was Grace Christian's fifth in a row) raised their record to 20-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Asheville Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.

Looking ahead, Grace Christian will square off against Hickory Grove Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. Asheville Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
